BISHOP ENGLAND HIGH SCHOOL

BARBARA W. BIANCHI - MATHEMATICS TEACHER

CLASS POLICIES

Text Box: I am looking forward to having your child this year. As parents, there are a couple of things to keep in mind in order to guarantee your child’s success. Four math credits are needed to graduate from high school in S.C. Therefore, please keep up with your child’s progress. For all of my classes, tests and quizzes are given on a regular basis. Barring unusual circumstances, your child will usually have his grade back within 48 hours. Grades will also be posted on a regular basis to our Net Access Website.
Classroom Expectations:
All students are expected to come prepared for class with their textbook, a spiral notebook or 3-ring binder just for math, and a pen or pencil. Students in math classes at the Algebra II level or higher should also have a TI-83 plus graphics calculator. Their attention, participation and respect for others and me are expected at all times. Discipline problems will be handled in accordance with school policy.
Homework Policy:
Homework is assigned on a regular basis and is intended to reinforce what has been taught in class. Homework is always gone over the next day and students are free to ask any questions. Individual homework will be checked randomly throughout the quarter. A minor grade will be given for these homework checks.
Tests and Quizzes:
Tests and quizzes are given on a regular basis and are to be taken in pencil. They are always announced in advance and reviewed for before hand. Students are expected to finish a test or quiz in the time allotted. Extra time outside of class to finish a quiz or test is not permitted. If a student has an excused absence the day before or the day of a test or quiz, unless there are extraordinary circumstances, he must make up the test or quiz after school within 5 school days of the date of his return. There is one exception to this policy: If your child is absent from my class the day before a test or quiz because he is attending a school sponsored activity or misses my class because he arrived late to school, he is still expected to take the quiz or test the next day. Whenever possible, seniors may take their make-ups on their free period. Students with study halls may also arrange to take make-ups during study hall with the proctoring teacher’s permission. Be mindful that I may not be available to answer questions if a student chooses to make up a test during their free period or study hall.
Grading Policy:
Grades for each quarter are calculated as follows:

A maximum of 5 points is given for each homework check.
Quizzes have a maximum value of 50 points and the lowest quiz grade is dropped each quarter.
Tests have a maximum value of 100 points.
Any miscellaneous projects throughout the year will be assigned a maximum value of 20 points.
The quarter average is the total number of points earned divided by the total number of points possible.

Extra Help Sessions:
Extra help is available in my classroom after school on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 3:00 to 3:45. Students will be notified if there are any changes due to meetings, appointments, etc. Students coming for help are expected to be in my classroom within 15 minutes of the final bell unless they have informed me otherwise. If you prefer to arrange private tutoring should the need arise, I will be glad to assist you in trying to engage a tutor.
Again, if at any time you have questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me through school at 849-9599, voice mail extension 304 or via e-mail at bbianchi@behs.com. Preparing your child successfully for the next level is a cooperative effort and I am looking forward to working with you and your child.
